Hindi version 1613
Kasturba Gandhi was called Ba in India dear,
(1869–1944) her life was clear.
She was wife of Mahatma Gandhi great,
Born on 11 April 1869 date.
Born in Porbandar, Kathiawar land,
With Gandhi she stood, strong and grand.
Her father Gokuldas Makhanji was trader wise,
Simple family under open skies.
Illiterate Ba at seven got tied,
To six year Mohandas, as child bride.
At thirteen years they were wed,
Simple life ahead they led.
She walked on Bapu’s holy way,
Lived simple life day by day.
In prayer and service she stayed near,
Cared for him year by year.
In 1932 Bapu kept fast in jail,
For Harijan cause without fail.
From Sabarmati to Yerwada she came,
Only then she felt some calm.
Deep were values of faith inside,
On her strong beliefs she took pride.
Many times to jail she went,
Firm on her promise, fully bent.
From South Africa to India land,
Like brave soldier she took stand.
In Champaran Satyagraha side by side,
With Bapu she walked in stride.
In Kheda she told women to rise,
Filled their hearts with hope and light.
When Bapu was arrested one day,
She followed his words on the way.
She asked all to leave foreign cloth,
For freedom fight she took oath.
In Dandi march and Dharasana days,
She filled Bapu’s empty place.
Not only Gandhi’s wife was she,
Her own great identity.
Social worker and patriot true,
For motherland her love grew.
In South Africa harsh rule was there,
Indians suffered pain and fear.
Against that rule she raised her voice,
Went to jail by her own choice.
British feared Mahatma’s name,
But Ba too strong in same frame.
In 1922 when Bapu jailed,
She led women, never failed.
In January 1944 her heart felt pain,
Twice it struck again and again.
Ayurvedic doctor tried his best that day,
But Ba slowly passed away.
