2890 Slowly Slowly (English poetry)

Hindi version 2888

Punjabi version 2889

Slowly, slowly, as you drew near,

Why did your gaze show signs of fear?

When you ran to me, in sudden haste,

My heart too beat with growing pace.

When our eyes locked, I couldn’t refrain,

Like drunk from wine, I felt the strain.

Our love, dear, we couldn’t hide,

Why did it seem like childish pride?

People burned, trying to break this bond,

Why provoke us with envy so fond?

When you came close, my heart would sing,

Like every part was strumming a string.

'Geet' each beat, each breath, began to play,

Like melodies in a lover’s sway.
