2893 'Geet,’ denied this thought (English poetry)

Hindi version 2864

Punjabi version 2894

Why did you turn deaf when she made her plea?

She kept struggling, but found no one to see.

Why do we deny when cries are clear?

Why turn away when a hand draws near?

What wrong did she cause while walking the street?

Did she ever, your peace, try to defeat?

Hee never learned right from the wrong you declare,

Did it once, and then again he did dare.

What happened? Nothing. All stand in dismay,

Thinking, “She harmed nothing of ours anyway.”

Her dream, shattered by some ruthless spread,

Silence and darkness, over her home it bled.

We never taught our children with care,

Man’s worth is great, was her sole affair.

Even fighting hard, she couldn’t survive,

No means to escape, none left to revive.

You think of every woman as your possession to claim.

But ‘Geet,’ she denied this thought with disdain.
