2938 seeing your gaze (English poetry)

English version 2940

Punjabi version 2941

Hindi version 2937

I thought you'd be my love, seeing your gaze,

But I stood in shock at your striking ways.

Deceit and lies were sold in the air,

I trembled to witness the market's despair.

Where truth was crushed, and falsehood grew,

I carried the burden of honesty through.

I sought some peace but found only noise,

Conflict surrounded, erasing my joys.

With a broken heart, I chose to part,

What could I do with your cold, hard dart?

When I believed you were lost to me,

Your sudden confession was a shock to see.

Toward my goal, I walked with care,

Avoiding the thorns that lingered there.
