K4 3101 I fell in love with you (English poetry)

Since I fell in love with you, my dear,

What has love given me but fear?

It burned like a fish on the shore so dry,

Can you call it life if all I do is cry?

If you had wished for me to fall,

Then living meant nothing at all.

Why should I sit in sorrow and pain,

When you gave me nothing but rain?

Since I was lost in love’s sweet flame,

Each second feels like a year by name.

Was it my fault to give you my heart?

I gave you all — didn't say to play your part?

Many times I thought I'd speak,

But you don’t notice the signs I seek.

What if you thought my words were wrong?

I bled alone, in silence so long.

Think once, my love, before I go,

If I leave, I won’t return, you know.

The ones we have get little care,

Do you think I drank the pain from air?

Since I fell in love with you, my dear,

What has love given me but fear?

It burned like a fish on the shore so dry,

Can you call it life if all I do is cry?
